Day in the Life: How This Pharmacy Manager Transformed His Workflow with MAPflow

March 14, 2025

Andrew Savo, HBSc, PharmD, RPh is a pharmacist and pharmacy manager at Lefroy Pharmacy in Innisfil, Ontario. He regularly uses MAPflow in his practice, both to streamline his own workflow, and to collaborate with his team. Here’s a snapshot of a day in his life at the pharmacy, as he walks us through how MAPflow helps him save valuable time and provide better patient care. (Interview has been edited and condensed.)

MAPflow: Can you tell us about a typical work day the pharmacy for you?

AS: Our pharmacy is open from 9-7 on weekdays, and throughout my day, most of my time is spent doing regular prescription filing. We might get anywhere from 80 to over 100 prescriptions in a day.

We’re a relatively small pharmacy, with only two staff working at a time, and we don’t have people come in with minor ailments too often — usually a few times a week.

When someone comes in for a minor ailment, I can handle it on the spot or make an appointment for later — but to be honest, MAPflow is the reason I’m able to handle it on the spot. Otherwise, the documentation would be very time-consuming.

We currently use Kroll in my pharmacy, so I was able to import all of my patients to MAPflow from Kroll, which made it very fast and easy. Now, when a patient comes in for a minor ailment assessment, I’m able to just do the assessment, save the prescription, and the paperwork is taken care of.

MAPflow: That’s great to hear that you save so much time on paperwork.

AS: Absolutely. One of the most important things about MAPflow is the ease of mind knowing that all the documentation is there — everything the doctor needs to know, everything for audit purposes, and everything to meet regulatory standards.

If I didn’t have MAPflow, I’d probably have to finish the minor ailment assessment and come back to the documentation later, and that process takes a good 15 to 20 minutes each time. With MAPflow, I can save up to 20 minutes for each assessment, and I’m more focused on the patient the entire time.

MAPflow: Fantastic. Are there any other ways MAPflow has changed your daily workflow, like through team collaboration, maybe?

AS: Yes! I work with a pharmacy tech intern, and we have a new administrative assistant starting this week, and MAPflow is a really helpful collaboration tool for us. My pharmacy tech intern is able to help me manage follow-ups using MAPflow, and it’s also been a really valuable training tool for her. Using the Demo Patient helps me walk her through the processes as she’s learning — and honestly, it helps me practice too for ailments that don’t come up very frequently. I use it to test my knowledge or to make sure I don’t forget anything. I toggle between MAPflow PRO and Standard depending on my comfort level with the particular ailment, so that’s a helpful feature too.
