Four Partners, One Mission: Preparing PEI Pharmacies to Assess and Prescribe for Group A Strep
December 4, 2025
On December 2, 2025, MAPflow joined the Prince Edward Island Pharmacy Association (PEIPhA), the PEI Department of Health and Wellness, the PEI College of Pharmacy, and Abbott for the PEI Pharmacy Town Hall. The event marked a key step in adding Group A Streptococcus assessments to the pharmacist's scope of practice under the Pharmacy Plus PEI program.
One Mission Across Four Partners
Expanding scope of practice takes an association to set the vision, a government to define the framework, a college to implement safeguards and standards, and industry partners to deliver the tools. What stood out was how well those roles aligned around a single goal: preparing Island pharmacies to assess and manage Group A Strep with confidence.
The Session That Set The Province Up For Success
PEIPhA Executive Director Erin Mackenzie opened with the Association's vision and rollout plans. The Department of Health and Wellness followed with the logistical framework, and the discussion reinforced a "choose wisely" approach to testing. MAPflow then presented a live demonstration of our clinical assessment pathway, integrated with the Abbott ID NOW device, showing how pharmacists can move from patient symptoms to point-of-care testing to documented outcome in one streamlined workflow.
Alignment Built on Partnership
This launch succeeded because of a rare degree of alignment, and that alignment was possible because the partnerships were already in place. The trust built among these organizations before the program began allowed us to move quickly and speak with a shared voice.
We are honoured to have contributed alongside such committed partners, and we look forward to building on this work as we scale across PEI and beyond.
