Beyond Dispensing: Pharmacy as a Healthcare Services Destination

As pharmacy shifts from a product-based model toward healthcare service delivery, US and Canadian leaders will examine prescribing authority and which pharmacist-delivered services are being reimbursed, where compensation falls short and what is required to build sustainable care and reimbursement models.

Joined by panelists including Justin Bates (Ontario Pharmacists Association) and Mike Wysong (CARE Pharmacies Inc.).

About the Canada-U.S. Pharmacy Forum

The Canada-U.S. Pharmacy Forum is presented by Drug Store News and the Canadian Pharmacists Association. It is an invitation-only gathering where senior pharmacy leaders from both countries compare how each system is moving pharmacy from dispensing toward health care services, from prescribing authority to reimbursement.

Why this panel matters

Pharmacists across Canada now assess and prescribe for common conditions, and more than 2,300 pharmacies in nine provinces use MAPflow to deliver that care, with the documentation written for them and each province’s rules built in.

Dr. Nakhla sees the question from both sides. She served on the Ontario College of Pharmacists’ Minor Ailments Advisory Group, which developed the draft regulations that let Ontario pharmacists prescribe for minor ailments, and she co-founded the platform pharmacies use to turn that scope into daily practice. In 2025 she was named a winner of Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award by WXN.
