Paul Bowman and team

"The challenge of lack of access to primary healthcare is felt acutely at our site. We want to do all we can within our education and expertise to help those seeking care. This is where MAPflow has been an amazing resource. While we were slow to get going, now we view it as an essential tool in our communications with patients. It has helped boost our confidence with prescribing, it has streamlined and standardized our communication with other healthcare professionals and ensures we are compliant with all required standards. I would strongly recommend MAPflow to any pharmacy team engaged in pharmacist-led prescribing activities."

MAPflow for New Brunswick Pharmacists: Common Questions

Which conditions can New Brunswick pharmacists prescribe for using MAPflow?
New Brunswick pharmacists can prescribe for 34 common ailments authorized by the New Brunswick College of Pharmacists (NBCP), including uncomplicated UTIs, conjunctivitis, allergic rhinitis, cold sores, and more. NB pharmacists have broad prescriptive authority (they can prescribe any indicated medication for an authorized ailment) after completing NBCP's Common Ailments Orientation. MAPflow includes algorithms for every authorized condition and is updated as the NBCP expands the scope.
What does the evidence say about the need for pharmacist-led care in New Brunswick?
The demand is significant. A University of New Brunswick evaluation of New Brunswick's pharmacy care clinic pilot found that nearly 1 in 3 patients using pharmacy clinics had no other healthcare option available to them. Even more striking: only 11.1% of patients seeking care for chronic conditions had a primary care provider. The same evaluation reported high patient satisfaction and found pharmacist prescriptions were the most common intervention, accounting for over half of all clinic services. As researcher Chris Folkins noted, pharmacists have the training to provide these services but have not always been given the opportunity to use that knowledge to its full potential. MAPflow exists to change that, giving NB pharmacists the clinical tools to practise to the top of their scope with confidence. Read the CBC coverage of the UNB evaluation.
Does MAPflow comply with NBCP documentation standards?
Yes. MAPflow was built to meet NBCP's documentation requirements for common ailment assessments. Each completed consultation automatically generates a structured assessment report, a provider notification, and a patient-friendly care summary. You don't need to manually format or complete documentation. MAPflow handles it.
What does the NBPA partnership mean for members?
As a preferred platform of the New Brunswick Pharmacists' Association, MAPflow offers NBPA members exclusive preferred pricing on subscriptions.
